Jos Electricity Distribution Company’s Prepaid Meter Reader Is Fake, Company Charge Consumers High- Consumers Lament

Worried by the indiscriminate billing system and the use of fake Prepaid meter readers consumers of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDCO) in Plateau, Benue, Bauchi ,Gombe and Jalingo have decried exploitation.
The Jos Electricity Distribution Company introduced free prepaid meters which was flag-off to be distributed to household user of electricity.
The experience of many Family who are residents in the cities today is better imagine as so many family paid dearly to the owners of light just to maintain their appliances.
It was gathered that the users of JEDCO formerly called NEPA are at lost because the operators only flash the light once in two week yet they maintain the double consumption rates.
” You would recall that the replacement of manual meter reading with the prepaid was to end the exorbitant charges and reduce hardship been experience by consumers of NEPA now ZTE”.
The prepaid meter popularly called ZTE meter imported into the country from foreign company to be disburse free now goes for N25, 000 for single phase and N30, 000 three phase.
It was also gathered that the contractor handling the project has siphoned those meters selling to them in secret.
However, the people of zonal headquarters in Jos are complaining that the meter is faster than the former manual prepaid meter.
They described the new prepaid meter as a general cheat to the teeming electricity consumers of JED; insider revealed to us that the meter was in a perfect condition as it opined that most of them have been temper with, by the criminal mandate NEPA officials to sub-change the consumers.
Some of the staff saddles with the responsible of mounting the meters don’t follow due process enshrined by the authority in charge.
With the elliptic power being experience across the country the residents of Plateau state and its environs have appealed to federal government to as a matter of urgency improve on the supply to increase small scale businesses.
