Jigawa State Assembly To Probe Eight LG Councils Over Alleged Financial Misconducts

The Jigawa State House of Assembly has set up an investigative committee to investigate eight local government areas in the state over an allegation of financial misconduct and abuse of office.
The chairman House committee on Information and also a member representing Kafin Hausa Constituency Hon Muhammad Na”im Adamu confirmed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the house sitting.
He said, the House has received a series of complaints and allegations of financial misappropriation against the stated local government councils, and to ensure fair hearing and probity in governance the House set up a special committee under the chairmanship of a Member representing Fagam constituency to investigate the matter.
Hon Naim noted that the affected local government council included Gwaiwa, Kafin Hausa,Guri, Miga, Birnin Kudu, Birniwa, and Babura local governments.
The member however revealed that the House has during the sitting approved the indefinite suspension of Yankwashi local government chairman on alleged mischief and spreading of false information against the All Progressive Congress Chairman Jigawa state Hon Aminu Ahmed.Gumel.
He said the house received a letter of complaints from the APC state chairman against the yankwashi local government chairman Hon Mubarak Ahmed, who falsely accused the party chairman of extorting money to favour some party aspirants.
“To ensure justice the house has suspended the council chairman and also a committee was set up to investigate the case and submit its reports and recommendations to the house”.
In a swift reaction to alleged financial misconduct, one of the council chairmen who spoke on condition of anonymity described the allegation as “political witch-hunting”
He said, “you know we are in a critical situation now, it is time for everyone to test his popularity, and those who felt they lack public confidence, they can resolve to any form of intimidation, coercion and false allegation to pursue their political agenda” the chairman alleged.
When contacted the party chairman Alhaji Aminu Gumel said this is a purely a political issue between the council chairman and the party chairman of his council and we are made to understand that the council chairman is abusing the party official in the state, that is why the party took the matter to the state assembly, for the house to take action personally I don’t have any issues with the council chairman of yankwashi.
