Jigawa Govt Says It Has 15,800 Teachers Currently Working In Primary And Post Primary Schools

No less than 700 blocks of three in one classrooms were constructed by Jigawa state government across the 27 local Government areas; this was disclosed by the State Commissioner of Education Jigawa Alhaji Lawan Yunusa Danzomo.

He added that adding that currently, the state has a total of 15,800 teachers working in primary and post-primary schools in the state despite the retirement of 7000 teachers in the state.

Danzomo explained further that MEGA schools are to be established in Kazaure Hadejia and Dutse, the mega schools in Dutse are at the completion stage while they remain two is in progress.

The establishment of the three mega schools is based on the intention to reduce the number of boarding schools in the state, assuring that two more mega schools would be established in Ringim and Gumel all in a bid to bring the children close to their parents.

Danzomo further stated that the state government has constructed over 117 new day secondary schools in an effort to bring education close to communities with a view to reducing the number of boarding secondary schools.

The commissioner confirmed that the state government Introduce effective learning by establishing effective schools in which 548 schools as were assessed by the state education officials.

He said facilities and teaching material had been provided to all selected schools to make learning easy and effective.

The commissioner said the state government has also established center of excellence in the state.

In the area of recruitment of teachers, the commissioner said 28000 people sat for teachers’ exams but very few people were able to pass the exam.

As he added that they have identified redundant staff at various local councils and the majority are qualified to teach in schools, stating that those on grade level 14 downward will soon be posted to schools nearby to teach to overcome the issues of manpower in their schools.

In the area of Nomadic education, he stated that 381 Nomadic schools have fully taken off in the state in which only a few are receiving their lesson under trees; the commissioner said ten junior secondary schools for nomadic is to be established in the state.

He said this year alone 150 Nomadic girls have been sent to boarding secondary schools in the state and all of them were supported with schools materials such as schools boxes, mattresses, books.

The commissioner added that the state government has also established 164 centers for adult education in the state.
