The Jigawa state government said it has created 150,000 job opportunities in the last five years in the area of the value chain on agricultural development with the intention for the State to be an International competitor on agricultural global development.
Governor Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State stated at the innovation summit for economic development held at Sir Ahmadu Bello hall in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.
Badaru challenged the organizers of the summit for submission on how best they can make the state to compete globally in the area of modern agriculture with a view of creating opportunities for farmers.
He called on the summit to assist Jigawa state with the idea on how the state can develop ITS Informative institute so as to create job opportunities for the people of Jigawa state
Badaru said the oil economy is almost over, the majority of the nation depends on solar and hydro energy which is very cheaper, and that the market of petrol is globally shrinking because the petrol demand in the world market is completely shrinking.
Badaru explained further that there is the need to create an independent economy for the state because the state is largely dependent on agriculture.
‘We can’t build industries here in Jigawa because we are very close to Kano state and the competition will kill our own’ Badaru stated, he added that “we meet weekly to see how we can develop our economy through agriculture” he explained.
In his contribution, DG NITDA Malam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi said Jigawa state has a lot of potentials in agriculture and the state is among the largest producers of Gum Arabic, Sesame and Hibiscus in the country.
He added that NITDA has established 18 ICT centers in which each center was built at local government headquarter, where he said the remaining nine local governments will soon get their centers.
