Inadequacy Of Judges, Facilities In Courts, Setbacks Of Judiciary-Chairman NBA Nasarawa

The chairman Nigeria Bar Association Keffi branch, Bar,Iliya Haruna has identified shortage of Judges and obsolete facilities in courts as a major huddles affecting the Judiciary in the state.

The NBA chairman attributed the enforcement of judgments and incessant transfer of judges as a serious impediment bedeviling the system, calling on the state government to build more courts and renovate old ones.

He called on the CJ to take urgent steps to prevent the recent reoccurrence of the recent flood that affected High Court 1 and 2 Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area, he applauded the efforts of the CJ for organizing the session and promised that the BAR would support the Bench in the state to ensure success of the appeal session.

The Chief of the state, Justice Suleiman Dikko stated that the Judiciary in Nasarawa state has setup five appeal panels to review and dispose 127 judgments delivered by lower courts in the state.

Dikko hinted that out of 127 cases 81 civil appeal cases, 56 are old while 25 are new cases, he further stated that out of the 46 criminal cases 32 are old while 14 are new cases.

He therefore advised all persons who are engaged in one form of corruption or the other to desist from it before being caught, he announced this at the 2016 Second Call-Over Special Appeal Session in High Court 1 Keffi Local Government Area of the state.

He also warned judges against engaging in corrupt practices and promised he would setup machinery to check the possibility getting rid of corrupt practices by Judges and other staff.

“Panel 1 would be presided by Justice John Vikko and Justice Simon Ayiwulu, while panel 2,3,4 and 5 would be presided over by Aisha Basir and Asmau Mainoma, Abundaga James and Oyigbenu Danjuma.

“Others are Simon Aboki and Daniel Adeka, Rose Soji and Haruna Offor respectively,” he added.

Also, Barr Alhassan Sabo, who represented Nasarawa State Commissioner for Justice, Yusuf Usman, assured the judiciary of continues support by the executive arm.

He therefore advised that all hands must be on deck to save the image of the judiciary in the state by taking hard measures in dealing with corrupt officials.
