minna-floodDeputy Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Friday Osanebi, has urged journalists to use their various media platforms in enlightening members of the public about the impending flood as predicted by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency.

Osanebi implored journalists to propagate the message about the flood by featuring reports geared towards ensuring that residents in flood prone areas vacate such places before the waters start surging as was the case in 2012.

The Deputy Speaker who represents Ndokwa East State constituency, one of the areas that was adversely affected by the flood three years ago, made the appeal when he played host to the Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zone F, Mr. Edward Akpati Ogude.

The lawmaker congratulated Mr. Ogude on his recent election, expressing confidence that the Vice President of the NUJ will bring his wealth of experience to bear in moving the union to the next level.

He disclosed how Ogude introduced him to secular politics while he was thriving in his private business, noting that those taking credit today for his foray into politics were doing so ignorantly.

“Ogude is a man in whom I am well-pleased. I was never a politician and never thought of it because I was making money in my business. Ogude brought me into politics. We met in Port Harcourt where he told me that I could serve my people better if joined politics.

“That was how I started and he has never talked about it in public but people who do not know how I came into politics are claiming the credit,” he said.

The Vice President of the NUJ, Mr. Ogude had told the deputy speaker that he was in his office to formally announce his election as the second in command of the union in Zone F which comprises the states in the South-South geo-political zone.

He appealed to the lawmaker to ensure that the House made laws that would impact positively on the lives of the people in the state, urging him to assist the union in any capacity that is within his reach.

“As the deputy speaker, you have a very huge burden to discharge. I appeal to you to ensure that laws are made to meaningfully impact on Deltans who are watching to see if the House can bark and bite. Posterity will judge you if you fail to make laws that will enhance the welfare of Deltans,” he said
