IMAPOLY: NBTE Withheld Accreditations Of N.D Mechanical Engineering Tech, 3 Others

Fresh fact from the Isa Mustapha Agwai l Polytechnic (IMAPOLY) Lafia has told Universal Reporters that the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE ) has withheld the accreditation of National Diploma In Mechanical Engineering Technology and other three programmes of the institution due to deficit of lecturers in the departments.
Feelers maintained that other nagging issues that affect the accreditation of the affected courses also included a deficit of facilities which are mostly lacking in the departments, four out of the twenty programmes are pending curative measures on certain equipment needed for the running of N.D Mechanical Engineering Technology, N.D Civil Engineering Technology, Quantity Surveying and Higher National Diploma (HND) Architectural Technology.
These are coming at a time that the state governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule has approved the employment of 100 academic staff to nip the gap in the bud, the Rector of the institution, Dr Justina Anjiode Kotso in a press statement confirmed the withheld of four courses by NBTE.
It could be recalled that IMAPOLY submitted twenty programmes to NBTE for accreditation, the statement indicated that the details of accreditation required application for the grant of full accreditation of existing programmes, resource inspection to commence new programmes and verification of staffing and status of facilities.
The statement further hinted that the accreditation visitation team conducted an exercise in the institution for four days ( 6th -10th December 2021 and forwarded the result to the polytechnic to make amendment before the revisiting of the team.
The board granted full accreditation to eleven programmes which include HND in Business Administration with specification on 2 streams of 60 students per stream, while HND in public administration with 1 stream of 60 Students respectively.
Other programmes are HND Accountancy with 2 steam of 60 students per stream,N.D Social Development (S.D) with two stream of 60 students per stream,National Diploma (N.D) statistics.
HND Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) Microbiology (optional) ,National Diploma (N.D) Library and Information Science, HND Urban and Regional Planning with 2 streams while HND in hospitality management, N.D in Mass Communication with 60 students and HND Leisure and Tourism management with 1 stream of 40 students.
The institution however maintained that the four withheld courses pending curative measures will in no distance time invite NBTE for verification as soon as the remedial measures are put in place.
Stating that nine courses were granted approval with two on interim accreditation with effect from 2021–2022 session, the Rector appreciate the state governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, the visitor to the polytechnic for his magnanimity by releasing funds for the exercise.
She lauded the governing council chairman, His Royal Highness, Sani Mohammed Bako lll for his immense support, the headship of the institution also commended the executive secretary of NBTE , Prof Idris Bugaje, and the executive secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) Prof Suleiman Bogoro and members of the accreditation team.
