ICD To Host Buhari In New York, Discuss Youth’s Education

buhariThe Berlin-Based Institute for Cultural Diplomacy (ICD) is expected to meet with President Mohammadu Buhari in New York to work out modalities to end youth illiteracy in Nigeria.

Mr Dickson Omoregie, Country Director of the ICD made this known on Thursday in an interview with newsmen in Yola.

Omoregie said that the meeting which was scheduled to hold in September 2015 in New York, USA was informed by the increasing youth restiveness in Nigeria.

He said that the President Emil Constantinescu, President, The Academy for Cultural Diplomacy; Former

President of Romania will lead the delegation and to be supported by the head of Organization for Youth Education & Development (OYED) of the ICD, President Franco Frattini (Former Foreign Minister of Italy) and Secretary General Hon. Anna Diamantopoulou (Former European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities).

According to him, the decision was made in a meeting in Berlin, Germany on how to intervene in the Education and Development component of Nigerian Youth.

He noted that some negative Youth activities have become worrisome and have drawn global concern.

He stressed the ICD’s commitment to engage the Nigerian youth meaningfully as part of efforts to assist Nigeria in fighting insecurity and other crimes stimulated due to ignorant on the part of the youth.

He added that America was considered for the meeting before coming to Nigeria during the 70th Regular Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 70) scheduled to open at UN Headquarters in New York on Tuesday, 15 September 2015 in a Parallel International Symposium on Cultural Diplomacy in the UN

The country director said that ICD is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization, founded in 1999 with headquarters in Berlin, Germany and the U.S.A.

According to him, its ultimate goal is to promote global peace and stability, by strengthening and supporting intercultural relations at all levels.
