A woman, in Enugu State, has allegedly taken her jealousy of her 3-year-old stepson too far that she killed the boy through Sniper insecticide injection.

The distraught deceased boy’s father, Justine, it was gathered,  was quick to suspect a foul play by his wife, on realizing that the boy was dead, by recalling the various maltreatments meted on him by the foster mother and reported the alleged murderous act to the police.

The suspect, Nnenna Egwuagu, aged 29, after her arrest, said in her confessional statement to the police that she resorted to that wicked act to garner more attention of her husband towards her upkeep and her daughter.

Daniel Ndukwe, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Enugu Police Command said in a press release made available to Crime Puzzle that, “Police operatives of the Command, attached to 9th Mile Police Division, on 09/04/2021, at about 2000hrs, arrested one Nnenna Egwuagu (f), aged 29, of Umulumgbe in Udi L.G.A., for allegedly administering noxious substance on her three-year-old stepson, one Wisdom Egwuagu, thereby causing his sudden death. Her husband and father of the deceased child, one Justine Egwuagu, who reported the incident to the Police, alleged that the unusual actions of the suspect towards the child caused his death”.

Ndukwe noted that “a preliminary investigation shows that the suspect confessed to having administered the noxious substance, suspected to be Sniper insecticide, on the child. She claimed that her action was due to her husband’s inability to take care of her and their daughter; and that she wanted the child to become sick so her husband could spend money to treat him”.

The PPRO said further that the baby was confirmed dead in the hospital and his corpse deposited in a mortuary for autopsy, adding that, “the container of the noxious substance and syringe she used in administering the substance on the child has been recovered, while a further thorough investigation into the case is ongoing at the State CID, Enugu”.

To this end, according to the police spokesman, the state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu, has described the act as callous and unfortunate.

The CP, consequently, has advised couples to truly love each other, live peaceably, no matter the circumstance, and use every legal and/or morally acceptable means to resolve their differences.
