For over two months now, all funds deducted from Civil Servants’ salaries for their respective Cooperative Societies, has inexplicably been withheld by the Plateau State Government, frustrating their monthly investments.

According to our sources, this was the second time the present administration has embarked on such act, leaving the Cooperative Societies with no other options than crying silently for their inability to trade their investment.

It would be recalled that Civil servants in the State for the fear of possible non-payment of salaries, decided to form themselves into Cooperative Societies by investing 90% of their earnings to cushion the hardship non-payment of salaries might cause them.

However, it now remains worrisome that,  even with the regular payment of salaries by Governor Simon Bako Lalong administration, some key players in the payment have decided to corner all deductions made into fixed deposits and generate interest for themselves.

While celebrating the payment of salaries by Governor Lalong at the May Day Celebration,  it was unknown to the Governor that some group of people playing their secret games with the lives of Civil Servants, making it difficult for them plan the future of their children.

It was alleged that the State Accountant General deliberately refused to give order to the salaried officer at the ministry of finance to release money amounting to a hundred million Naira main for all the  Cooperative Societies directly deducted from their salaries.

Our source whose name remains anonymous said,  “imagine holding such a huge sum of money to ransom for two months,  you can imagine how much will be generated from that if we loan it out to our members and get our interest.

“Some Cooperative Societies were unable to hold their Annual General meetings (AGMs) that dividends were supposed to be shared to members from their accrued interest,  but this act has frustrated everything. I think the present government wants to kill all Civil Servants Cooperative Societies.

“Let me ask you. How much are the salaries that meet the present time challenges? Look at the cost of things now in the market.

It is food,  rent, hospital bills, school fees, etc! This is the means of settling these problems and somebody is wickedly holding it against our wishes.  This is wickedness!”, he revealed.

Our investigation revealed that all the MDAs that are into this Cooperative Society business are affected and this has grounded their means of business in the past two months.
