Numa community of Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State was thrown into pandemonium following the mass murder of 16 persons by suspected Fulani herders.

 

Those killed include the DJ, Shuaibu Abdullahi, the Celebrants Father and Mother of the child and 13 others were killed.

 

The Paramount ruler of Akwanga, Chun Mada, Samson Gamo-Yare disclosed this during an exclusive interview with selected Journalists at his palace in Akwanga.

 

The Monarch expressed dismay over the incident, calling on the central government to take a proactive measure to tackle the gory situation.

 

He declared that the gunmen were identified by two surviving villagers that the attackers are Fulani herders

 

“On the spot assessment, two persons from Numa mentioned some Fulani’s amongst the killers”.

 

“I wonder why the government would accord special attention to the discovery of crude oil beneath the Earth but would not be able to dictate hideout of criminal elements”.

 

The Paramount ruler called government at levels to take stringent measure to curb the wanton killings.

 

When asked the reason that led to the attacked, he attributed the upheaval to the recent raping of a Mada at Nimdar by Fulani youth which lead to her death and there was a reprisal attacked on Fulani’s where scores lost their life.

 

Senator representing Nasarawa North senatorial district, Senator Philip Aruwa Gyunka in an interview at his abode described the killings as  a barbaric and unfortunate one especially armless citizenry.

 

“The killings were timely with the motion I move for citing of military formation in Nasarawa North with the unabated kidnapping and activities of bandits recently.

 

The beleaguered Local Government Chairman, Hon. Samuel Meshi says the attack was a coordinated one on the peaceful People of Numa whom he averred has been leaving peacefully over the years.

 

He confirmed that 16 persons were killed while several other casualties sustained various degrees of injuries and were admitted at General hospital Akwanga while others with serious injuries were directed to Federal Medical Centre, Keffi.

 

The Chairman of Miyetti Allah in the State, Alhaji Muhammadu Hussaini while reacting described the attackers as criminal elements disguising as Fulani herders.

 

When asked whether Numa People are having grudges with Fulani pastoralist he asserted that Mada youth killed two Fulani’s over an allegation of raping of a Mada girl, saying the issue has since been settled by Chun Mada.

 

He denied the claims that the attackers are Fulani militia, calling on the police not to hesitate to carry out the arrest of perpetrators of the coordinated attack.

 

“No single person was arrested by police but some group of persons is saying is Fulani and the worst of this was that the attacked happened around 10:00 pm, who really identified them?

 

“If there would be the destruction of crops in farm, no doubt is herders, calling on the public to apply precaution in identifying Fulani’s as criminals”.

 

Miyetti Allah Chairman lauded the traditional ruler of Akwanga for the holistic intervention.

 

He warned herders to desist from engaging underage in rearing, faulting parents over the unabated destruction of crops.
