- Police Arrest 11 persons including, Awe Council Chairman Charges them To court
No fewer than twenty persons including the council chairman of Awe Local Government, Aliyu Turaki were alleged to have been apprehended by security agents over the stoning of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura’s chopper during a visit to Awe community.
It was alleged that multitude of people confirmed to be loyalist to the executive chairman of Awe Local Government Aliyu Turaki were arrested for attacking the state Governor. Those nabbed, It was reported were fingered as “die hard” of the current chairman.
In a video recording which universalreporters247.com is in possession of, saw how the Governor was prevented from alighting (coming down) from the police chopper at Awe as supporters were seen pouring insults on the person of the Governor? The video also showed how the irate persons were raining abuses on the Governor, some of the abusive languages they used against the governor in the video by the protesters are Bamuayi, Barawo. The visit was marred by protest by teeming supporters of the All Progressives Congress in Awe.
It was gathered that majority of the protesters were Local Government workers whom were protesting over the non-payment of four months salaries, An investigation conducted revealed that academic activities in public schools were grounded to a halt following the ongoing biometric, data capture and state-wide screening exercise.
Another issue that lead to the protest ,according to party chieftain from Awe who pleaded anonymity said that APC supporters are not in support of the appointment of Secretary to the State Government, Suleiman Azorres being from Tunga, the current member House of Assembly, Tanko Tunga and also the selection of commissioners nominee from the same zone.
When universalreporters247.com contacted the Police Public Relations officer in the State over the matter, he confided that eleven persons have been arrested in connection with the attack and that they have been charged to court.
Meanwhile, speaking with the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ahmed Tukur he said he won’t comment on matter since the issue is with Police, that universalreporters247.com should talk with the Police.
All efforts to speak with the Chairman Awe Local Government Area was not successful as he didn’t answer calls made to his phone.
