The Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary (New Edition ) defines divert as ” to use money or materials for different purpose from their original purpose, This best explained the scenario over the allocation of N400m by the former president to overcome the effect of 2012 flood disaster that wreaked havoc to Nasarawa state.
Government source revealed that the N350m remaining balance out of the N400m dole out by former president Goodluck Jonathan to cushion the effect of flood in Nasarawa state has been diverted by the state Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura for the procurement of relief materials to victims of tribal and communal conflicts that enveloped the state while the core victims of 2012 flood disaster are wallowing in abject poverty, stagnation, deprivation, agony, squalor.
The Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Abubakar Idris dissociated himself from the balance of the N350 from N400m relief fund dole out to Nasarawa state Government by former president, Goodluck Jonathan meant to cushion the effect of flood disaster that ravaged communities in 2012.
“As I keep on telling the press, NASEMA bought logistics while the remaining balance of N50m was given out as compensation to victims of disaster leaving the remaining balance of N350m, As of now the money is not with me, The right person to contact is the Accountant General of the state, The head of NASEMA speaking to our reporter during a town hall meeting.
The state Accountant General, Muhammed Dadda’u in an interview in his office said N42m remained in the flood account as at press time, He averred that N311m was expended by the state Government through the procurement and distribution of relief material to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s).
“The Governor is using the relief fund judiciously as you can see the amount in the “special account” is N42m in spite of the volume of relief material bought by the state Government to IDP’s” For more detail you can contact the Secretary to the State Government” He insisted.
The SSG, Amb.Umar Azzores when contacted over the flood relief fund declined comment ,Please I’m sorry he added.
