The Plateau State Commissioner For Commerce & Industry, Hon. Joseph Abbey Aku has concluded an arrangement to contest for Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency seat bye-election in the forthcoming with promise to continue with the late Hon .Haruna Maitala legacy projects.
The Commissioner drop this cheering news during a press conference held at the Bishop court on Sunday, saying his pedigree won’t allow him to join words with disgruntled elements.
He frowned at the campaign of calumny against his personality regarding the contest for the bye-election of , Jos North/Bassa federal constituency
Abbey Aku drew the attention of the general public on a publication making the rounds in social media regarding his intention to contest the Bye-Election for Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency occasioned by the death of the former occupant (late Hon. Haruna Maitala), may his soul rest in peace.
According to him,”Ordinarily, I wouldn’t have even contemplated joining issues over a write-up by a coward and faceless person since, in democracy, freedom of expression is encouraged to deepen the process.
However, the said piece on social media is not even an opinion on my aspiration, but outright falsehood, spurious, misplaced, and malicious aimed at character assassination.
He said , the said write-up summarizes the best definition of mischief. To further exhibit the motive, intent and purpose behind the malicious machinations, the sponsor of the write-up cooked up my endorsement by a religious body. This is the height of insensitive, decay in morals occasioned by desperation.
It is most unfortunate that the said publication is said to be a purported interview I granted a medium.
Aku disclosed that , let me make it categorically clear that I have never granted any interview to any medium regarding my ambition to contest the Bye-Election. The public is hereby, strongly advise to disregard the said publication.
He explained further that those who know me closely would attest to the fact that I am a man of the people owing to my background as a well-cultured man. In my years of sojourn in the political terrain, I have never received an endorsement by any person or group to succeed.
Abbey Aku stressed that My manifesto has always been my selling point and I have always believed in teamwork irrespective of ethnic or religious affiliation.
I have made it clear and would still want to state here that my interest in the House of Representatives is because it’s the more vibrant of the two chambers.
Based on my orientation as a politician, I have realized that it’s the House of Reps that people express themselves most and it also affords one the opportunity to meet and network fellow Nigerians from various backgrounds and competencies. It is also where the strategic population is concentrated because it is where you have the younger people with multi-disciplinary backgrounds, exuding energy and knowledge on how the country can be governed.
Consequently, I have the vision to offer service and collaborate with Nigerians to deliver on key areas that affect my Constituency. These are Peace and Security: The Constituency has been faced with challenges of insecurity. I shall collaborate with the Plateau State Peace agency and other peace-building NGOs such as Humanitarian Dialogue to entrench peaceful coexistence among inhabitants of the constituency. Attract Developmental projects:
I shall vigorously lobby for projects to my constituency, being a former Senior Legislative Aide in the National Assembly, I am conversant with the dynamics.
Contribute to the passage of important bills that will impact positively society. Regular consultation with Constituents.
These are just a few areas I have mentioned for the purpose of this press conference.
Again, I want to be judged as a reformist. I have considered the activities of the legislature and I am interested in driving the reform process to make it better.
He appealed to all contesting not just for the Bye-Election but any other election to engage more in revealing what they have for the electorates rather than engaging in a campaign of calumny aimed at destroying the reputation of others. How shall we see one another after an election campaign so richly built with hate, bitterness, and indeed venom all in a bid to win?
