Governor Sule Grants 40 Inmates State Pardon-Commissioner Justice

No fewer than 40 Inmates in Nasarawa State has benefited from the olive branches of Governor Abdullahi Sule for granting State Pardoned.

The Attorney General,Bar Labaran Shuaibu Magaji disclosed this during an exclusive interview with Universal Reporters Online at the ministry headquarters in Lafia.

He averred that the State Governor in a bid to shower mercy on some inmates facilitate their released,The Commissioner maintained that the State pardoned were in two phases.

“During the first phase of State pardoned not less than fourteen inmates were granted pardoned ,that is  in October last year while the recent one was in January  2024.

“I happened to be the chairman of the committee on prerogative of mercy, We have our criteria for releasing inmates “He added.

The Attorney General while Fielding questions confirmed that the number of inmates awaiting trial outweigh the number of those serving their jail terms.

Saying the condition of correctional centre in Lafia is same with the condition in Keffi, Nasarawa Eggon,Wamba, Nasarawa.

The State Governor extend his benevolence to correctional centre by distributing 100 bags of rice with N3,000,000m cash so as to quell the current hardship face by Nigerians as a result of fuel subsidy removal.

Bar Labaran Shuaibu Magaji disclosed that the State Government has taken over the completion of Awe correctional centre as well to providing logistics to them.

Other efforts, according to the Commissioner also includes the fencing and electrification of the centre.

The Attorney General described Governor Abdullahi Sule as a law abiding citizen and a Governor that  obeys and adhered to  the rule of law,Giving an instance during statewide protest by supporters of the opposition political party,The People’s Democratic party against the sitting Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule.

“Some State Governor will outlaw the entire protest in the State,But ours is a Governor that play an open door policy,Is a Governor that welcome criticism whether genuine or not”.

The Attorney General advised people of the State to adhere strictly to the rule of law.

Under this reign, we accord topmost attention to Criminal Justice Administration which was purely on a fortress to protecting the right of individual who were accused in one way or the other.

“What we are doing is to ensure that nobody clamped on right of the people”.
