Governor Al-Makura Constructs 1Km Road At The Cost Of N250 million To N270 million But Not N1 Billion-Works Commissioner

The Commissioner of Works and Transport, Engr. Yahaya Wada has said Nasarawa State is the only state that spends less on road construction in the north.

The Commissioner stated this while reacting to an interview granted cross section of Journalists recently saying governor Al-Makura build the most expensive roads.

It could be recalled that the former minister of Information, Labaran Maku hinted that the state governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura built a kilometer road at the tune N1bn.

“In some states, a kilometer of road cost a whopping N400m”.

“Though one of the ongoing Tudun Kauri-Makurdi roads cost almost N1.8bn, what makes the money to gulp to such amount was because of the bulk of work ranging from construction of tunnels and drainages and channels with serious work meant to nip erosion in the bud.

“So far we constructed over 200 culverts and drainages at the tune of N700m, adding the projects has since been completed”.

Commenting on the ongoing demolition of roundabout constructed by governor Aliyu Akwe Doma, the Commissioner said the existing roundabout was not built to a standard.

Engr. Yahaya Wada said the new design of the roundabout was meant to beautify the state capital

The Commissioner further said the move was to complement the urban renewal of the ruling party in the state.

“Apart from the roundabout, we are committed to reconstructing the old welcome to Lafia to a modern one that would stand the taste of time”.

Responding to the ongoing airport project situated at Kwandere, Engr Wada opined that heavy downpour affected the ongoing construction.

“The contractors would very soon return to site “the commissioner stated.
