Governor Al-Makura Attributes Percentage Payment Of Pensioners To The Implementation Of New Minimum Wage

Nasarawa State governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has attributed the percentage payment of pension to retirees to the implementation of the Federal government new minimum wage of N18,000.

Al-Makura stated this during the swearing-in ceremony of Chairmen of the thirteen Local Governments, he said the State government did not only implement the new minimum wage of N18, 000 but further jerk it up to N18, 900 as above the Federal government.

He however maintained that not all categories of pensioners are of pensioners are on percentage payment.

According to him, “all retirees before 2011 are enjoying their benefit 100 percent “.

It would be recalled that recently selected pensioners in the State stage a protest in the State capital demanding for the payment of their pension in full.

The pensioners lamented that they are on percentage for the past 18 months, appealing to the State governor to do the needful.

The spokesperson of Pensioners, Nasarawa State chapter Usman Ibrahim averred that 200 pensioners in Nasarawa State died of heart attack, hypertension and other deadly ailments.

He hinted this in a press briefing held at the pensioners’ office, he said pensioners are suffering in squalor, agony, deprivation compounded with hardship and hunger biting harder after putting 35 years in active service

The retirees were seen carrying placards with different inscriptions, “SLAVERY IN NASARAWA STATE AS GOVERNOR AL-AKURA REFUSED TO PAY US OUR GRATUITY.

“WE ARE AWARE GOVERNOR COLLECTED FROM PARIS CLUB MONEY, PAY OUR ARREARS OF OF PENSION AND GRATUITY “pleaded with the State government to reconsider the plight of pensioners.

The Director Pension Board,Abdullahi Sani Oseze pleaded with the pensioners to remain calm, promising better days for retirees.

He further maintained that pensioners were owed over N7billionn before the coming of governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.

He said the Chief executive have more considering and plans, calling on pensioners to contact him for any clarification.
