Gov Ganduje Extends Mandate Of Singer Market Judicial Commission

The Kano State government has extended the mandate of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the fire incident at Singer Market and other markets in Kano city by two weeks, to enable it to cover the recent fire outbreak at Sabon Gari market.

Announcing the extension during a meeting with the chairman and members of the commission members on Sunday, Governor Ganduje said extension became essential in view of the extent of damage done by the inferno.

Lamenting that the Sabon Gari fire outbreak was the worst that ever happened in the state, Governor Ganduje assured that his administration is determined to come up with solutions against recurrence of such incidents.

The governor, therefore, charged the commission to do a thorough job, appealing to people in the state to cooperate towards achieving the set objectives. He also urged them to continue seeking refuge from God against such calamities.

Earlier, chairman of the commission, Justice Wada Aliyu Rano (rtd) while sympathizing with the government and people of the state over the inferno, advised the state government to enact a law that will ensure efficient control of activities in all markets in the state, by the government.

He also told the governor that his commission has received about 15 memoranda and listened to 57 witnesses assuring that the commission would complete its assignment within the stipulated time.

Meanwhile, Governor Ganduje has charged traders from Kofar Wambai and Rimi Markets in the state to learn from the unfortunate fire disaster that happened at the  Sabon Gari Market by taking measures to prevent similar incidences.

The governor gave the advice this during a meeting with representatives of the two members at Kano Government House on Sunday, pointing out while government is doing its part, the traders must also adopt protective measures in their respective markets.

The representatives of the traders, Alhaji Nasidi Mai Gwanjo and Salisu Ya’u Yola advised the government to provide strategic water reservoirs in markets as well as central electricity systems as part of initiatives to curb incessant fire outbreaks.
