Go To Plateau SUBEB And Collect The Entitlements Of Your Dead Ones, Plateau NUT Chairman Tell Families Of Dead Teachers

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Plateau state Chapter has protested the non-implementation of new salary scheme to its members and their agitation for independent of Teachers out of the local government autonomy in Nigeria.

Spokesman of the protesters, Chairman Comrade Gungshing Yarling also employed government to redirect all the families who their loved ones were teachers who died during the recent sack to go to SUBEB for the entitlement of their deceased family.

He urged families of those who lost their beloved one to proceed to State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) headquarters in furtherance to the death benefits of their deceased.

Comrade Yarling stated this during a press conference at the NUT secretariat after drumming support for the Local Government autonomy on Thursday.

He said, they Nigeria Union of Teachers have vowed never to join the LG autonomy but rather to advocate for better conditions of service to their members across the country and their salary should be send through state or SUBEB.

According to him, the NUT secretariat has confirmed that about 21,000 estimated teachers in Plateau state are currently receiving under the pay roll of the state government.

He appealed to the state government to give special consideration to primary school teachers who are holder of master degrees to be appointed as directors in SUBEB because the past administration showed segregation to those who have educational background.

Comrade Yarling reiterated that the plight of rural teachers call for urgent intervention to rescue education from total collapse because teachers have been neglected at the grassroots level.

He disclosed further that LGA do not have the capacity to pay the primary schools teachers,  “so we are presenting a letter on the autonomy and independent of the NUT to address deficiency going on within the local government administration in Nigeria.”

Yarling said, “We are looking for political independent for the local government Teachers, where teachers will not be begging, although the big challenge now is the issue of N18, 000.00 minimum wages that is not yet implemented after the Supreme Court judgment of 2005 which state governors refused to adhere to judgment.

Yarling called on Governor Lalong to consider and implement the agitation of 65 years retirement age for Teachers, as their counterpart in Universities and colleges of Education and Polytechnics because they go through the same markets, Hospitals which the disparity in salary cannot be compared.

He noted that state government should provide SUBEB with the solid responsiblity of taking over the salary payment of Teachers .
