NUT advises Govt to focus on NCE and University certificates

The Chairman Nigerian Union of Teacher (NUT Plateau State branch  ,and zonal coordinator of Nineteen Northern states, Comrade Gunshing Yarling has  challenged governors of Northern states to ensure that the government gives priority to  National Certificate of  Education (,NCE) ,University certificates .

Yarling disclosed this on Thursday during the 19 northern state congress meeting held at the Hill station Hotel, Jos North Local Government Area.

He explained that Plateau state government recruited 300 graduates and 4,856 ad-hoc teachers to help address the falling standard of education in the state.

Yarling stated that “we are here purposely to as a region to fine-tune some of the problem bedevil our teachers in all the  over 19 northern states, We have discovered in the recent times that some governors in some states will wake -up and issue out appointment letters to their business associate which is against the rules “.

He said, they have reduced the salaries of their teachers to this level without recourse to the laws that establish such people that what is not right.

Comrade Yarling explained that the governors has wake up to say they have reduce the salaries and remunerations of their workers.

He said to what happened to political appointees is the economy gone done on the workers and not the political matters, adding apart from that we have also discuss a situation where teachers did not take their work seriously.

According to him, a teacher should respect the gesture that salaries are paid regularly and also should take their work with serious mindset.

He noted that the northern region is going to host the 19 northern state congress in Kaduna on the 15th and 16th of September to tackle all the problems emanating on the preferred solutions.

Yarling stressed that the coming together of NUT means their unity and strength will be respected.

He expressed delight that the former Nigerian prime minister Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and sir  Aminu Kano, Buba ,Chief Solomon Daushep Lar and others had stayed together to  ensure that northerners feels a sense of belonging in the body of polity .

According to him, Sardauna of Sokoto also contributed by letting them learn from his good job .

He reiterated that in one of their executive gathering they met the president and discussed the idea of upgrading teaching profession.

“Today we are talking of quality education not quantity education all over the world we focus our attention on education, Nigeria leaders are also paying lip service on education”.

He explained that UNESCO countries stipulate that 26 percent of our budget should be allocated to education but Nigeria hardly will implement   9%”.

“we have told the president in categorical terms that if he is going to employ artisans ,doctors, as teachers we are going to shut down the entire schools in Nigeria until the right things has been done.

He emphasized that it is not the fault of the teachers who are not performing to expectation, it is the government fault that is employing quacks into the profession”.

Yarling cautions that people should stop abusing teaching profession because are not a place for someone to stay and be looking for a greener pasture.

He expressed satisfaction with the presence National Certificate of education issue which is lingering the country.

He added that until someone possesses the qualification before he will be employed as a teacher in every school ,some states in the north who has the disadvantage has embark on aggressive training  to reach the standard of education requirement .

He commended governor Lalong for doing a good job as regard to upgrading quality of teachers in the state in plateau state.

Yarling stresses that many teachers were able to meet up with the requirement before the biometric capture dateline.

He pointed out that we have about 27,000 teachers when the biometric came up ,in current stage we have about 22,000 teachers which means there is a gap.
