The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed the death of five individuals following severe flooding in parts of Adamawa State. In response, the state government has established two temporary camps to assist displaced residents.

The camps have been set up at Aliyu Mustapha College and Fatudde Girei Secondary School in Yola town to facilitate the profiling and support of affected victims.

According to NEMA’s preliminary report, five people lost their lives in the disaster, while 55 others sustained various injuries and have been referred to the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.

As part of the immediate humanitarian response, NEMA, in collaboration with state and federal agencies, has intensified efforts to mitigate the impact of the flood on affected communities. Temporary shelters have been provided, and essential supplies are being distributed.

Ladan Ayuba, NEMA’s Head of Operations in the region, said coordinated efforts are underway to rescue and support victims across the affected areas.

Kaletupwa Farauta, deputy Governor of Adamawa State, visited the camps on Saturday to monitor the ongoing profiling of victims. She expressed sympathy to the displaced persons and directed the immediate establishment of community kitchens, as well as the provision of clean water and medical supplies.

“We are doing everything possible to ensure that victims are supported through this difficult time,” she said.

Emergency response efforts are ongoing as authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage and deliver relief to those in need.
