When contacted, the Director of the state’s Fire Service, Alhaji Mustapha Rulwan, confirmed the incident.

He said the fire started around 4:35 a.m. and destroyed 30 shops in the furniture section of the market, but thank god with almighty help and good citizens we are successfully put the fire off.

We got the report of the incident around 3.54 a.m. and our men in Gwarzo office were able to quench the fire around 5.49 a.m.

Our preliminary investigation indicated that the fire spread to the shops and other places when some traders attempted to burn sawdust.
