Fintiri Flags Off Solar Hybrid Mini Grids To Boost Power Supply In Adamawa Communities

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Kofare, Mbamba and Saminaka Solar Hybrid Interconnected Mini Grids.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Fintri described the project as a major step towards tackling energy poverty and expanding access to clean and reliable electricity across the state, adding that the project is the first major interconnected solar hybrid mini-grid designed to directly serve the three communities.
He noted that beyond providing electricity, the initiative would stimulate economic growth, improve livelihoods and unlock new opportunities for businesses and investments.
Fintri recalled that the project was conceived in 2025 following engagements with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). He said the discussions culminated in an investment roundtable in Abuja, where the state showcased its renewable energy potential to prospective investors.
Fintiri explained that his administration introduced incentives, including credit guarantees, concessional financing and free land for solar farms, to attract investors into the renewable energy sector.
According to him, the measures have already yielded positive results, with several investors signing Memoranda of Understanding to establish projects in the state.
He described the partnership between Mahashakti Nigeria Limited and the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) as a model for sustainable development, saying the integration of the mini-grids into the existing electricity distribution network would ensure reliable power supply and support the implementation of the state’s electricity policy.
As part of the project, the governor announced the allocation of land to Mahashakti Nigeria Limited at no cost, expressing confidence that the collaboration would pave the way for similar renewable energy projects in more communities.
He also disclosed that more than 20 REA-approved solar-powered mini-grids are currently being deployed across Adamawa State through the partnership between the state and the Federal Government.
Governor Fintiri said his administration envisions an Adamawa where distributed renewable energy powers every community, transforms agriculture and transportation, creates jobs and improves the quality of life of residents.
He added that expanding clean energy infrastructure remains a key priority for sustainable development.
The governor commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for creating an enabling environment for private sector investment through the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He also praised the Minister of Power, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Abba Aliyu, Mahashakti Nigeria Limited, YEDC and community leaders for their contributions, urging residents of Kofare, Mbamba and Saminaka to protect and take ownership of the project as he formally declared the groundbreaking ceremony open.
