A proposal has been made for the Construction of 16 Duplexes for the surviving Sons of late Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa the first Prime Minister of Nigeria.

The proposal was to enable the Government take over the House of the Prime Minister to convert it to a Historical Monument and Tourist Centre.

The first Child of the late Prime Minister Alhaji Yakubu Abubakar Tafawa Balewa made the proposal when the Chairman of the Bauchi state House of Assembly Committee on Tourism and Culture Honorable Magaji Isa visited the family in Bauchi.

Alhaji Yakubu said the entire Family can be relocated to the new Duplexes to enable them settle permanently in their abode while the Federal Government could buy the House and renovate it to International standard.

He said the edifice has been without renovation for more than Eight Years and that the N5million assistance, which the Federal gives to the family since 1968 has not been reviewed and is grossly inadequate for the sustenance of the first family.

The Chairman of the Tourism and Culture Committee of the Assembly Magaji Isa said they were in the House of the Prime Minister following a motion sponsored in the Assembly on the need to intervene towards the upkeep and sustenance of the Family.

He said the Assembly is desirous to affect positively the lives of the Family hence the need to personally visit the edifice and chat with the Family on the best ways of intervening.

The first Child of the Prime Minister Alhaji Yakubu Abubakar later accompanied the Chairman to the only surviving Wife of the late Prime Minister Hajiya Aisha Jummai Abubakar who commended the Committee for identifying with the Family and prayed Almighty Allah to reward the entourage.

Earlier, during a visit to the Tomb of the Prime Minister, the Chairman had expressed willingness to collaborate with the National Commission for Museum and Monument to revive the decaying infrastructure in the Tomb and urged the Government to live up to her expectations.

He said the entire arena of the Tomb and the Library need overhaul to give the Tomb a befitting outlook to attract Tourist and generate enough money for the sustenance of activities in the area.

The state Director of Culture Mr. Zaman Waseni had complained about the problem of decaying infrastructure in the Tomb and the House of the Prime Minister and called for urgent Government intervention to control the situation.
