Following the road accident that occurred on Thursday, Dec.2nd 2021, along Owerri/Portharcourt Road (Opposite INEC State Complex) where a heavy-loaded trailer (truck) carrying Container with goods worth millions failed and was damaged.
The South-East General Taskforce Chairman of ‘Freight Forwarders Transporters Association, FFTA’, Comr.Chukwuka Okafor, aka Maintain, has raised a tremendous alarm.
Comr. Okafor, who could control his anger at the scene of the accident, frowned at the heights of discipline obviously recorded from the ugly and disrespectful operational activities of the Taskforce Team of the Environmental Transformation Commission, ENTRACO, in Imo State.
Speaking to the media in a swift chat, Comr.Okafor, who is also the Chairman of Onitsha Containers, expressively condemned the inglorious reign of the ENTRACO Taskforce Team in Imo State.
He revealed that his association only deals with the Federal Government at the seaports as it concerns their direct tax but wondered why the Shared Prosperity Government through ENTRACO Taskforce would be dragging the steering of their truck drivers, which, according to him led to the accident that claimed the loss of goods worth over six million Naira (N6,000,000).
Comr.Maintain, while speaking, condemned the recent announcement made by an Imo Based Radio Station (Hot FM) where the broadcaster vehemently claimed that some persons died during the road accident that occurred at Owerri/Portharcourt Road ( opposite INEC State Office) Owerri, the State Capital of Imo State.
“Well, we Thank God that nobody died. No life was lost. But we lost goods and products worth more than #6m. We are not happy with the activities of ENTRACO in Imo State. Gov.Hope Uzodinma should caution them on their selfish and ugly activities. They lack training and the government of the day in the state should checkmate their uncivilized manners of approach”, Comr. Maintain lambasted.
“We are truck owners, our payment is done at the seaports for the Federal Government not for the State Government. We owe no explanation to any state government, rather we deal with the Federal Government on revenue generation”, Okafor disclosed.
It could be recalled that the association of the Freight Forwarders Transporters Association, FFTA, angrily protested last Wednesday, Dec.1st 2021, in Owerri Metropolis, barricaded some of the major roads in Owerri, the capital city of Imo State, insisted they won’t move away from the road until their demands are met.
But information had revealed that some top Imo Govt. officials intervened and brokered peace before reoccurrence of another accident.
The leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, led by the Imo State Chairman, Hon.Sam Udeh, through his Personal Assistant, Sir. Dennis Nneji, via his rapid response of effective coordination, stormed the accident scene and ensure a free flow of traffic, even as he promised to work in synergy with the association of Freight Forwarders Transporters.
