I am referring to the recent video clip that featured President Muhammadu pleading with the people of Bauchi State to be patient that his visit was cancelled due to the poor visibility of the weather caused by the harmattan. This has created political uproar in Bauchi anchored by various groups that shares different interests. This event lived up to expectations that it will provide a vast rally for leaders and politicians to identify with an institution many of them look at with a mixture of discomfort and awe.
As a social commentator, my meditation about the cancelled visit and the video went beyond the politics and their policies. I was left asking myself; Did President Buhari ever sent such clip to any state or country when a proposed visit was cancelled?, if no, Does it prove that Buhari has a special concern for Bauchi state citizens? Or the President has guess that the Barrister on the throne has lost trust of grandsons and daughters of Tafawa Balewa.
One good thing about this issue is that President Buhari has either postponed or cancelled many travels in his schedules but a tweet from Mallam Garba Shehu or Femi Adesina was enough to comfort the hosts. On 2nd June of this year, President Buhari announced the cancellation of a proposed visit to Niger Delta for the launch of the cleanup of the Ogoniland, no reason officially given by the presidency. The President has also cancelled a Two-day visit to Lagos on 23rd March despite the state hasn’t hosted a sitting president in 14 years. So also, the President spokesman last Thursday tweeted that President Buhari has cancelled a visit to Enugu for the Southeast economic summit.
Similarly, earlier this year Christian Ita, the Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Ben Ayade of Cross River, announced that the proposed visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Cross River State for the groundbreaking ceremony of the 260km dual carriage superhighway has been cancelled.
Why the case differs in Bauchi?
Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar of Bauchi State is aware of the frustrations of his perjury by the citizens Bauchi State. The Governor might compel the presidency to release the clip to clear the air for the people who will not in any way believe with whatever the state government will state as a reason for the cancellation of the president’s visit. Being in the 21st Century, when information technology became more sophisticated, the state government might have Videoshoped a clip to mislead the people of Bauchi who are desperate to host Mr. President. It might also be the presidency covered the video to prove Buhari’s proximity with the people of Bauchi whom he is yet to visit them since they massively voted in 2015.
Whatever the case is; it stands a proof that President Buhari has guessed the Barrister that rules Bauchi State is a fibber.
