The race for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Adamawa State took a dramatic turn on the eve of the party primaries as governorship aspirant, Diaulhaq Abubakar, formally withdrew from the contest and declared support for fellow aspirant, Tijjani Ahmed Galadima.
Diaulhaq announced his decision during a meeting with supporters and political associates in Yola, explaining that the move was made in the interest of party unity and the future development of Adamawa State.
He described Galadima as a competent, trustworthy, and experienced leader capable of repositioning the state and delivering purposeful governance.
In a strong show of commitment to Galadima’s ambition, Diaulhaq pledged to mobilize no fewer than 226,000 votes in support of the aspirant during the APC primaries scheduled for tomorrow. He also announced a donation of N100 million to strengthen the campaign.
According to him, personal ambition must sometimes be sacrificed for the collective good of the state and the party.
“I met with someone who has a vision to reposition Adamawa. His imprints are all over the place,” Diaulhaq said while addressing supporters. He further described Galadima as diligent, humble, and dependable.
Highlighting Galadima’s public service record, Diaulhaq praised his stewardship at the Petroleum Trust Development Fund (PTDF), noting that he managed substantial public resources without being linked to corruption allegations.
“He was entrusted with huge public funds. If another person held that office, he would probably have no business seeking governorship today,” he stated, adding that Galadima has never been indicted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) or any anti-graft agency.
Diaulhaq also dismissed what he described as misleading narratives about Galadima’s political standing within the APC, insisting that extensive consultations and grassroots engagement across the 21 local government areas of Adamawa have significantly boosted the aspirant’s acceptance among delegates and party supporters.
He maintained that his endorsement was based on conviction rather than political convenience, stressing that Galadima possesses the temperament, integrity, and leadership capacity needed to drive economic growth, improve infrastructure, and strengthen social services in Adamawa State.
