Defamation: Bauchi Chief Of Staff, Katagum Sues Tuggar, Claims N2 billion Damages

The Chief of Staff to Bauchi state Governor Architect Audu Sule Katagum  has dragged the governorship candidate of Congress Progressives Change  in the 2011 election, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar to court for an alleged defamation of character.

Katagum who is claiming the sum of N2bn as damages in the suit, and demanded apology -retraction on electronics media to be aired 3 x daily for 7 days.

He had stated That Maitama Tuggar took to his face book page and cast aspiration on my person and hard earned character, that as the defendant maliciously and callously wrote on his face book page as follows.

Chief of Staff Audu Katagum is where is Musa Azare you asked him to come and see you at government lodge Abuja on Thursday and he refuse he feared for his safety and two days later he disappeared in to thin air be aware we shall hold u responsible if anything happens to him.

However the matter come up yesterday  for hearing before the   Bauchi State High Court 5 which granted a motion for defence filed by one Alhaji Abdu Sule Katagum against Alhaji Yusuf Tuggar.

The court, presided over by Justice Aliyu Usman, granted the motion based on the formal request by the defence counsel.

Counsel to the defence Barrister Mustapha Tafarki said his client has never posted any bad words on the social media against the plaintiff as earlier alleged.

He said the name Musa Azare in the alleged Facebook post, is a critic of Bauchi state government.

Meanwhile the presiding Judge, Justice Aliyu Usman, has adjourned the matter to 12th on December 2016 for pre-hearing.
