Death Toll Rises To 20 People In Irigwe/ Rukuba Communal Clashes By Yakubu Wuyep,Jos

Not less than 20  people  were reportedly killed  in the early hours of Tuesday  midnight  attack between the Irigwe/Rukuba native   of Bassa Local Government Council of Plateau State.

More dead bodies have  been recovered at Dutse Kura border community  between the Rukuba and the Irigwe .

An eyewitness who saw a Hilux van loaded with dead bodies heading to unknown destination expressed fear over secret killing going on in the affected tribes,Calling on  the appropriate authority to take preventive  measure to  averting the situation by  deploying more security personnels  to contain the attackers .

Information available revealed that the Irigwe killed some people who were harvesting crops in their farm and dump the corpses  inside a well over the killing of a 65 year-old woman as she was  returning from Rukuba market.

The police spokesman DSP Emmanuel Abuh confirmed that six  people were killed last night and few sustained various degrees .

He said the Plateau state commissioner of police ,CP Nasiru Oki has deployed enough mobile police to help bringing the situation under control.

“we are aware of circle of violence going on in Bassa Local Government area but we are on top of the situation”.

Since the crisis broke-up between the Irigwe and Rukuba many lives and properties worth million of naira have been destroyed,family lost their love ones .

Our correspondent gathered the two tribe are been suspicion of each other ,they attack and killed the brothers own on major roads.

several  houses destroyed  including farm products  in the village of Bassa Local Government area of Plateau State following a Communal dispute.
Plateau State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Habu Emmanuel who Confirmed the Incident said a detachment of Mobile Police Men has been drafted to the area to restore normalcy.
 He revealed that a fight broke up between Iregwe and Rukuba tribes over a protracted  land dispute.
According to him,“no fewer then 10  People were killed in the Village during the last crisis in March.“
 He said the Command is suspecting irigwe tribe men for first launching the attack on the Rukuba Settlement because the attackers are speaking their native language when they invaded the village
According to the police, the attackers were using dangerous weapons including Sophisticated gun and other assorted weapons during the attack.
The spokesperson of the of Rukuba Community, Mr. Madaki Aboy Said they were attacked by the Irigwe People who also kidnapped two People from their area.
He said there was a move to reconcile the two Communities by the officials of the State and local government in the past, but lamented over what he called the refusal of Irigwe Community to abide by the peaceful Settlement of the long age dispute.
He said about four people were brutally murdered by the attackers whom he alleged used Sophisticated weapons in Committing the act in the village.
