Former Governor Joshua Dariye and Governor Simon Lalong have condemned in its totality the deplorable state of health care system as a national embarrassment to the continent.
The Senator lamented the rate of poor leadership as the major cause of underdevelopment of the primary health care which has been ravaged by many household in the rural and urban settlements.
He explained governors of Nigeria should understand that health is wealth; we need to restructure policy on health care delivery system to tackle medical tourism outside the country.
Dariye described the poor health care system bedeviling Africa countries as wearisome with majority of the population suffered daily from poor management.
Speaking during annual general meeting of NMA 2016 at Eliel centre Rayfield with theme”,addressing the crisis in the National health system ;The role of doctors as managers of health care resources”.
Governor Simon Lalong said the poor indices on health care delivery is characterized by inadequate and poorly motivated personnel ,grossly ill-equipped facilities linked to low allocation of resources.
Represented by the deputy professor, Sonni Tyoden ,Lalong stressed that contemporary doctors are saddled with responsibilities of not limited to clinical services ,research teaching, leadership and managerial roles in their various areas of professional services.
According to him, to address problems in the overall context of health care delivery, training of doctors in comprehensive health management needs must be enhanced continuously to meet the dynamic challenges of health care delivery.
The chairman NMA Plateau state, Dr Bupwatda Pokop advocated the building of international world medical tourism centre in the state.
Pokop added that in a bid to provide efficient and effective health services to the people which have maintain a close working relationship with the Nigerian, they are partnering.
“I want to assure you that in line with our medical practice we will strive to sustain and international improve medical tourism”, he added.
