COVID-19: How Policeman Attached To Rivers State Task Force Killed Policewoman (See Photo Inside)

A policeman attached to the Rivers State Task Force on Decongestion, Sergeant Bitrus Osaiah, has shot dead a fellow Sergeant, Lovender Elekwachi.

 

The shooting incident occurred on Thursday while the Task Force was in operation in Eneka town, Obio-Akpo Local Government Area of the state.

 

Elekwachi was on duty as part of the team enforcing the lockdown order of the Rivers State Government following the outbreak of the Coronavirus Disease in the state.

 

It was gathered that the policewoman was mistakenly shot by the policeman as he tried aiming at a trader resisting arrest.

 

In a statement late on Thursday, the Rivers Police Command said Osaiah, attached to the Operations Department of the Command, has been disarmed and arrested.

 

According to the statement, Osaiah is undergoing “orderly room trial”.

It added that two other members of the Task Force have also been arrested and being questioned.

 

The Hilux van used by the Task Force for the operation has been impounded and the corpse of the female Sergeant deposited in the mortuary.

 

The Commissioner, Rivers State Police Command, Joseph G. Mukan, called for calm over the development.

 

Mukan promised that judgment would be served in the case.
