COVID-19: 44000 Households To Be Covered In The Food Distribution In Cross River – Ayade’s Wife

In continuation of His Excellency, Senator Prof Ben Ayades good gesture towards the welfare of Cross Riverians by introducing different palliatives to ease the citizenry of hardship during the stay at home executive order of Cross River State Government against Covid-19, Her Excellency Wife of the Governor, Dr Linda Ayade on Thursday embarked on sensitisation of food sellers at Marian, Watt and Bogobiri Markets while using the opportunity to support Cross River State Food bank by acquiring food stuffs for the vulnerables in the State.

Speaking, Her Excellency, Dr Linda Ayade called on market women to frequently wash their hands with clean water and soap while observing social distancing. She assured them that nose masks will be provided free of charge for all the market women as part of preventive measures against the deadly virus. She said Cross River State is COVID-19 free and should stay so.

Also speaking, Cross River State Commissioner for Health and Chairman Cross River State Covid-19 Response taskforce Dr Betta Edu thanked the People oriented wife of Governor for supporting the welfare committee and food bank to purchase food stuff that will be distributed to over 44,000 household reflected in the world bank register for vulnerable house holds. She advocated to the market women to stay away from anyone coughing, avoiding non-essential visits to hospitals, and maintaining personal hygiene among others.

Meanwhile the Commissioner for Humanitarian and Welfare, Mrs Blessing Egbara who accompanied the Governors wife said her committee will ensure Cross Riverians who need help are captured on the social welfare amenities provided by the state government.

Chairman Cross River State Food Bank, Rev Dr Mercy Akpama said several strategies have been laid on ground to ensure households benefit from the distribution of food stuffs. According to her,religious leaders, stakeholders, traditional rulers, village heads, volunteers and Government appointees from every LGA will be involved to ensure food are delivered to every community.
