The Chief of staff to Government house Gombe Alhaji Kabiru Kukandaka has said the used of cooking gas will help in addressing effect of deforestation in the state and Nigeria at large.
He made this known Thursday in Gombe during a sensitization programme on expiration of cooking gas and it’s side effects for the north east.
The chief of staff while cited some problems affected the public when using cooking gas said the workshop was timely because quite number of people have moved from traditional method of cooking to modern way by using gas.
He called on the participants not to shy away and utilize their knowledge to enlighten their neighbors.
Kukandaka who commended Standard organization of Nigeria (SON) for creating awareness on proper usage of cylinder said the present administration is committed to serve for the better.
In remark, the Director- General of Standard organization of Nigeria Mr. Osita Aboloma called on Nigerians as matter of urgency to desist themselves from using expired cylinders while cooking.
The DG who was represented by Gombe state coordinator of Standard organization of Nigeria Mr. Yakubu Umar said cylinder are expired after 15 years from the date of manufacturing.
He emphasized the need from the general public to always check the expiration date of their gas cylinders before refilling them to ensure safety in the society.
Safety is not individual, but a collective responsibility. Environment is a common heritage therefore we must ensure safety of where we lives he said.
According to him, the objective of the workshop is aimed to create better understanding of good practice of handling gas cylinder.
