It was like a drama recently in St Mark’s Anglican Church Amakohia Owerri as the church wedding of a couple was abruptly called off as a result of allegation that the bridegroom had earlier wedded another woman in the Roman Catholic Church.
Tension started rising when the church service could not commence at the scheduled time.
Before the wedding was called off, the church premises had already been filled with many Anglican priests majority who are from Okigwe South Anglican Diocese where it is said the father of the bride is serving as a senior priest.
Also waiting were friends and relations of the couple, choristers of the church and a choral group from the music Department of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education Owerri where the bride is said to be studying music.
Information gathered is that the father of the groom was against the marriage and had to come to the church few minutes to the commencement of the wedding to put up the allegation.
However, it is alleged that the former marriage of the groom had earlier been dissolved and former wife long remarried with children from her new marriage.
Nevertheless, both the bride and her family did not take the information lightly as it is said that they were not aware of the allegation prior to the wedding time.
When the venue of the wedding reception was later visited, it was observed that things put in place for the event were being dismantled while many guests ignorant of the ugly development were still arriving to the place in a large number.
Rumour has it that the father of the groom who is said to be a knight in the Roman Catholic Church is not at home with the bride’s course of study in school and the wedding holding in Anglican church.
