The first executive President of Nigeria, Shehu Shagari, is dead. Confirming his death, Bello Shagari, his grandson, said he died at the National Hospital, Abuja, on Friday.

Tweeting he said; “I regret announcing the death of my grandfather, H.E Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who died right now after brief illness at the National hospital, Abuja,” he tweeted.
Also, Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal said also confirmed via his twitter handle as he said; “I regret to Announce the death of former President Shehu Shagari who just passed away at National Hospital Abuja. May his Soul Rest in Peace.
The late Shagari was Nigeria’s President in the second republic, from 1979 to 1983, before his government was toppled by a military coup
in December 1983
