Breaking: Federal High Court Orders INEC To Capture Hon. Henry Yunkwap Name On Its List

Yakubu Busari

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission ,INEC, to include the name of Henry Yunkwap the Labour Party ,LP, for Shendam State Constituency for the Plateau State House of Assembly seat in the 2023 election amongst the list of candidates for the various States in the forthcoming general elections in Nigeria and warn against exclusion of Hon.Henry Yunkwap .

Justice I. E.Ekwo of the Federal High Court Abuja in his judgment ordered the independent National Electoral Commission to upload the name of Hon. Henry H. Yunkwap , the Labour Party’s Candidate for Shendam State Constituency in its list.

In a suit N0.FHC/ABJ/CS/2117/2022 ,Hon.Henry Yunkwap contested for Plateau State House of Assembly under the platform of Labour Party (LP) as his name was conspicuously missing at INEC cyber final lists of candidates for the state Assembly in Plateau State .

The INEC had refused to upload his name in the first list stating the facts that his name was submitted to them for uploading against the rules.

The Court ruled that INEC’S Rule doesn’t supercedes the provision of the Electoral Act that provides for his name to be uploaded within the time his name was taken to the INEC for the upload.

This Judgment has now put to rest the long awaited participation of Hon. Henry H. Yunkwap in the forth coming elections.
