Be Open To Journalists,  Nasarawa NUJ Chairman Advises Chairman Board of Internal Revenue

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists,Nasarawa State Council, Comrade Dogo Shammah has lauded the Chairman, Nasarawa State Board of Internal Revenue, Ahmed Yakubu for the application of diplomatic approach in boosting the collection of Internally Generated Revenue.

 

Comrade Shammah stated this when Members of the State Executive Council comprises of Chairmen and Secretaries of the seven Chapel paid the board a courtesy visit.

 

 

Saying further that the application of diplomatic approach to generate more revenue has yeilded better results.

 

He also commended the Chairman over the prospect he made for the establishment of revenue court as well improvement in welfare package for staff.

 

The Chairman averred that the visit was to partner with Journalists and the board in the State.

 

He then appreciated the then administration under the headship of Umaru Tanko Al-Makura by releasing chunk amount of money for the renovation of Press centre.

 

Urging the Chairman to be open to Journalists at all times, adding that the press are there to reflect the society the way it was.

 

The Chairman of board of Internal Revenue, Ahmed Yakubu eulogies the  NUJ for the visit and promised to carry along the Press.

 

Yakubu reeled out some of the breakthrough made by his headship to include the introduction of electronic   collection of taxes.

 

He in addition said electronic collection of tax as helped in boosting the revenue drive of the State as well blocked leakages.

 

“Huge number of tax defaulters prompted the board to introduce revenue court one in Lafia and one in Karu, the gateway to the Federal Capital Territory”.

 

According to him, the board was under staff when we came on board and the only way to address this is to  embark on training and retraining of staff.

 

“We open liaison offices in Lagos and Abuja and this also helped in boosting our IGR”.

 

“We are generating taxes in places like 9ja-Bet”.

 

He said the revenue board is partnering with the Federal Road Safety Commission in the area of motorcycle operating without plate numbers.

 

Seeking for the financial autonomy of the board to allow it perform, appealing to Nasarawa NUJ to create awareness on people of the State on the need to pay their tax.

 

The National Vice President of the Sport Writers Association, Mohammed Danmusa in a vote of thanks, applauded the Chairman  for his understanding and kind words to partner with Nasarawa NUJ.
