Bauchi Bakers Threatens Strike Action Over Increase In Flour Price

Bauchi state chapter of Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria has threatened to embark on an indefinite strike action over the sudden increment in the price of flour, a major raw material for bread making.

The state chairman of the Association Alhaji Adamu Baba Muhammad who made the remark today while speaking with newsmen in his office, said the Association has no option apart from the strike action.

Alhaji Adamu Baba said over the years, the Association had experienced minor increments on the prices of flour and sugar without making it known to the public.

According to him, a bag of flour was now sold at eight thousand two hundred Naira as against six thousand two hundred Naira last month.

Alhaji Adamu Baba expressed concern with the situation which he said, will not augur well for bakeries and the end users.

Consequently, the chairman said some members of the Association have suspended their production which has started making impact on consumers

The chairman who disclosed that the over 2,000 bakeries in the state have been seriously affected with the increase in price, called on the state government to intervene to avoid the impending strike action.

He said the Association had formally informed the state governor, the Emir of Bauchi and other relevant bodies on the matter.

Alhaji Adamu Baba said if nothing was done by Wednesday 27th January, members of the Association will embark on the strike action to press home their demand.
