Speculations that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would extend the tenure of Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker/Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) by another six months the end of the year has emerged, yesterday.

This came shortly after the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) passed a vote of confidence on the panel for “their outstanding performance” in rebuilding the party.

The forum led by Kebbi State Governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu said the body made the resolution at the end of its meeting on Wednesday night in Abuja.

The decision comes on the heel of President Muhammadu Buhari’s position that the fate of the committee, which has twice enjoyed six-month extensions, would be determined at the end of this month.

The governors, in a statement, were exceedingly impressed with their Yobe counterpart, Buni, for providing excellent leadership to the party at the time it needed the most.

The forum stated: “The vote of confidence is imperative to encourage the leadership of the party to continue its strides in piloting APC to its next level.

“It would be recalled that the CECPC, under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni, was put in place to strengthen the ruling party in the face of some challenges.

“The Yobe State Governor and his CECPC committee members have succeeded in attracting serving and former governors, senators, House of Representatives members, as well as other notable opposition leaders to the party, which the governors tagged very commendable.

According to the governors, the Buni-led Committee has not only stabilised the APC but have also engineered great developments, while bringing in a successful membership drive to make the party the biggest in Africa.”
