The Zamafara state government said it has received N282 million excess funds from the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

In a statement on Friday, Zailani Bappa, senior special assistant to the governor on media, said the fund was received by Bello Matawalle, governor of the state, in Kano.

He said AMCON “pointed out that the sum is a refund on the settlement of the liquidation of the debt of the Brightway Mining and Minerals Ltd to AMCON.”

Bappa said the excess funds was recovered following a complaint officially lodged by Matawalle.

“The Zamfara State under the leadership of His Excellency Bello Matawalle has earlier disagreed with the terms and conditions of the auctioning of the state’s assets as ratified by the immediate past administration in the state,” the statement read.

He said the letter received from AMCON was signed by Sa’ad Ahmed, the corporation’s inter-governors relation officer, and Albert Nwanozie, head of its legal unit.

Bappa said the letter was “accompanied by 27 cheques of N10,0000 each and one of N 2,525,547.38.”
