Our Reporter in the state found out that the Jigawa state electoral body has slated 26th  of this month to conduct the local government council’s poll as the serving local council’s tenure is expiring on the first of next month (1st July).

A source in the commission, who is a member in the commission’s board who spoke on anonymity, told our reporter that “The commission budgeted the sum of N600 million for the local council’s election”.

According to the source “we did a realistic budget which is only N600 million. We sent to the state government to provide the fund, after long time waiting and time is not on our side, we requested an audience with the governor after discussion, we were told to ask the local councils to fund the election”.

“So heads seriously rolled, and so many consideration and financial difficulties, it was later the governor agreed that the 27 local government council’s to give 60 percent of the total budget while the state government to balance the 40 percent of the money”, the source explained.

The source further stated that “we shared the 60 percent to the 27 local government councils in which each local council to pay N14 million”.

“The payment was divided into two installment of seven million Naira per month by each of the 27 local govt in the state. They all settled that the amount be made direct to the JISEC in April and May which will make a total of N378 million”.

However, Finding by our reporter gathered that the commission used the funds collected from the local government councils and paid themselves some allowances even before the  conduct of the election.
