Al-Makura Advocates For The Demilitarization Of Soldiers Of Fortune As A Solution To 2015 Election By Rabiu Omaku, Lafia

As the 2015 General election gathered momentum, Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa state has advocated for the demilitarization of all local militia groups in the country for 2015 General election to be smooth, free and fair, The Governor identified the presence of guerrillas groups as a great threat to the blossoming democracy.

The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Hajiya Zainab Abdulmumini called on security operatives in the country to be unswerving in their obligation by disarming militia groups in the country, He further stated that militia groups if not check will potent vulnerability to the sustenance of democracy.

Umaru Tanko Al-Makura in his, speech extolled the holistic measure put in place by the NSCDC to ensure free, fair and credible election by 2015.

“Ekiti and Osun Governorship election is an eye opener that 2015 election will be free, fair and credible, The state Governor added, The Government of Nasarawa state also called on the electoral umpire, INEC to be neutral and objective as an independent body.

Al-Makura called on politicians in the state and the country to shun politics of acrimony and malice.

“Nasarawa state is witness a change in 2011 and still we are witnessing another round of change especially with the present impeachment saga the people of the state stand by the Governor”.

The state Governor appealed to security agencies in the country to always ensure prompt responses to crisis situations, And also called on the highest authority to ensure the sophisticated weapons, gadgets and logistics are made available.

Major stakeholders in other security outfits has advocated for fair play,unneccesary competition, winning at all cost as an elixir for the smooth conduct of not only 2015 election but beyond 2015.

The commandant General of the NSCDC, ably represented by Mohammed Jega confirmed that the nation is facing serious security challenges.

He however affirmed that the rising spate of criminality ranging from insurgency, Kidnapping, ethnic and communal violence, rapping, abduction potent great peril to the security of lives and properties.

The commandant General stated this in NSCDC 2014 security summit Tagged “security uncertainties and challenges of elections” The need to re-asses security strategies, He further averred that the present security agents most be strategized.

Speakers after speakers advocated that the Independent National Electoral Commission and political parties should exhibit doggedness and commitment.

Jega said if all the preponderance surrounding bloody election were put in place the sky will be the starting point for the nation, Adding that this will guarantee a peaceful conduct of 2015 election, said Ade Abolurin.

Also speaking, The state commissioner of police,Idris Ibrahim buttressed that the nation is facing severe security challenges, calling on the highest authority to put in a mechanism  to combat the rising spate of criminality.
