Again: Governor Al-Makura Re-Appoints Dr. Rebecca Isaac Umaru As Provost COE, Akwanga

Nasarawa State Governor Umaru Tanko in a concerted effort to reinvigorate tertiary Education has approved the re-appointment of Dr. Rebecca Isaac Umaru as the Provost, College of Education, Akwanga.

Rebecca Umaru before her appointment by the incumbent administration was a former Commissioner of Education and also an erstwhile Commissioner for Women Affairs under the government of ,Late governor Aliyu Akwe, Doma, the second executive governor of the State.

She was currently a Lecturer with the English Department of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

The re-appointed Provost had turn around to status of the tertiary Teachers Training institution which then “Advanced Teachers College”

This was contained in a statement signed by Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Abdullahi Hassan and made available to selected Journalists.

Some of the track records of Dr. Rebecca Isaac Umaru was building of access road to Language Library, under Umaru over 36 lecturers were sponsored for further studies for their MSC and PHD abroad while over 60 were sponsored internally also.  Other holistic projects include the building of the best ECCD, Lobbying for scores of projects as various projects are completed while others are ongoing, provision of borehole to quell the trepidation faced by students, prompt payment of light bill to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.

According to the statement, the governor has approved the appointments in exercise of his powers as the visitor to the institutions.

It listed the institutions as; Nasarawa State University Keffi, College of Education Akwanga, College of Agriculture Lafia and Nasarawa State Polytechnic Lafia.

“The Chairmen of the governing councils are, Adamu Beki, the former Vice Chancellor, while Mahmud Zubairu was appointed the Chairman governing  Council, College of Education, Akwanga .

Other appointees are Dominic Bako, the Chairman, governing Council, College Of Agriculture and Mohammed Karshi, the Chairman, governing Council, State Polytechnic Lafia respectively.

Other members includes; Vice Chancellor, Provosts, Registrars of the four institutions. The appointments of Chairmen and members of four state owned tertiary institutions.

“Others are, representatives of Ministries of Education, Finance, Commerce, Works, Justice, supervising bodies among others, ” it added.

It therefore said that the council would be inaugurated in a date to be announced later.
