The Adamawa State Police Command has successfully rescued 13 children believed to be victims of human trafficking, along with four individuals who were kidnapped.
The operation was executed following credible intelligence and a coordinated effort by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping/Crack Squad, Intelligence Units, Tactical Team, and Area Commanders.
Addressing the press in Yola, the Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, disclosed that the 13 children were trafficked by a 43-year-old woman, Ngozi Abdulwahab, a resident of Jambutu in Yola North Local Government Area. The children were reportedly sold to buyers in Anambra State.
Dankombo stated that the rescued children are currently receiving medical care at the Specialist Hospital, and ongoing investigations are aimed at reuniting them with their rightful parents.
He further revealed that a total of 567 suspects have been arrested in connection with various criminal activities, including child trafficking. Among them are the principal suspects in this case—Ngozi Abdulwahab and Uche Okeye, a 55-year-old resident of Kabuki, Nnewi in Anambra State—who are allegedly responsible for multiple child trafficking operations between Adamawa and other parts of the country.
In addition to the rescue, the Command recovered an array of weapons and items including six AK-47 rifles, pump-action guns, fabricated assault rifles, assorted live ammunition, vehicles, tricycles, motorcycles, computers, and various charms.
