The Adamawa State Government has commenced a Computer-Based Test (CBT) as part of its recruitment exercise to employ 5,000 post-primary school teachers across the state. The initiative is being overseen by the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development.

Speaking during an inspection tour of one of the examination centres in the Central Senatorial Zone, Garba Pella Commissioner for Education, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise. He described the process as “satisfactory,” noting that the state is committed to ensuring transparency and merit in public sector employment.

“This is the first time in the history of Adamawa State that applicants for a government job are required to apply, write an examination, undergo interviews, and go through a screening process before securing employment,” Pella said.

He emphasized the government’s departure from previous recruitment methods that often relied on personal connections rather than merit.

“We are a serious government. That’s why we engaged the services of independent consultants to ensure a credible and merit-based process,” he stated. “Gone are the days when employment letters were issued based on who you know. Now, it is purely based on merit.”

More than 18,000 candidates registered for the recruitment, according to Nuhu Abadulahi, the software developer from Satlink Consultant Services, the firm managing the CBT platform.

The examination is being conducted in phases across the three senatorial zones, beginning with the Central Zone. The first phase was held at Ramat Government College, Yola, where hundreds of applicants participated.

Birsan Penuel, Co-chairman of the committee and Ag. Executive Secretary of Post Primary Schools Management Board, reiterated the government’s commitment to a transparent and fair recruitment process. He highlighted the initiative as part of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s broader education reform agenda aimed at addressing the shortage of qualified teachers and improving educational outcomes in the state.

Birsan further stressed that applicants who pass the CBT will proceed to the next stages, which may include oral interviews and document verification, he note that the government has assured the public that the entire process will be concluded in time to allow for the timely deployment of successful candidates ahead of the next academic session

One of the candidates, Asondolo Ibrahim, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination, describing it as well-organized. She also commended Governor Fintiri for prioritizing job creation, especially for unemployed youth in the state.
