Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Kaletapwa Farauta, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful and cooperative atmosphere ahead of the planned boundary demarcation between Nigeria and Cameroon.
Farauta gave the assurance on Tuesday in Yola while receiving the Director-General of the National Boundary Commission (NBC), Adamu Adaji (Surveyor), who paid her a courtesy visit.
She said communities along the affected border areas have already been sensitised and encouraged to cooperate with officials from both countries during the exercise. According to her, maintaining peace and understanding among the border communities remains a top priority for the state government.
Farauta described the forum as a crucial platform for strengthening transborder cooperation between both nations. She emphasized that sustained collaboration would not only enhance mutual understanding but also promote collective security and stability across the border regions.
Earlier, Adamu Adaji, the NBC Director-General explained that his team were in the state to brief government authorities and residents that the Commission had concluded the mapping phase of the Nigeria–Cameroon boundary.
He added that full-scale demarcation is expected to commence next year.
It will be recalled that the State Boundary Committees of the frontline states along the Nigeria–Cameroon border recently appointed Farauta as the Chairperson of the Forum of Border States. The frontline states include Adamawa, Borno, Taraba, Benue, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.
