90 Percent Of Bassa Population Flee Their Ancestral Home, Calls On INEC To Cancel Elections In Crisis Prone Areas

The Bassa Cultural And Development Union as appealed to the Federal Government to as matter of national importance cancel the conduct of any form of election in Toto Local Government until peace returns to the land.

The National Secretary of CDU Gwatana Dogwo stated this during a press briefing,he described Bassa communities as a ghost town,stating that no meaningful activity can take place until government is able to return home the people.

Jere Ja’afaru Gwatana who represent the National Secretary said Bassa had been under systematic attacks by Egburra mercenaries as scores were killed and many communities destroyed and houses burnt to ashes.

“February 14,2019 Bassa were attacked resulting in serious upheaval in Toto,the headquarters of Toto Local Government”.

“For the above reasons,we ask the Independent National Electoral Commission to cancel forth-with the scheduled general elections in the area”.

Urging the government to embark on peace process that would return home the fleeing communities,as we are talking now Egburra are mounting illegal road blocks.

Bassa decried the total absence of security agencies along Nasarawa-Abaji route which they said has been taken over by Bassa mercenaries.

BCDU also accused government at all levels for taking side in the ongoing killings by Egburra mercenaries, he added.

The Chairman of Toto Local Government,Nuhu Dauda who was also the Chief Security Officer of the council when contacted on phone decline comment over the issue.
