350 Disabled Persons In Bauchi Receives MTN  Mobility  Gesture

About 350 disabled persons in Bauch has  received mobility and other aids from MTN Foundation apparently to cushion their effects

The gesture according to the chairman, MTN Foundation, Prince Julius Adelusi is the phase 5 of the Foundation’s ‘Disability Support Project‎’ which is aimed at relieving the sufferings of people with disabilities in the country.

He said the Foundation had since 2009 empowered over 19,000‎ people in order to fend for themselves and their families.

He noted that through the distribution of various mobility aids and appliances , thousands of Nigerians living with disability‎ in the 36 states and the FCT have started to shape a better future.

“Today, we are here to distribute 350 mobility aids and appliances to the fifth set of beneficiaries under the MTB Foundation Disability Project.

“This initiative is predicted on our belief that by accepting and empowering our fellow citizens, we are not only performing a humane and noble deed, but are also contributing to the Socio-economic development of the country,”he said.

Adelusi however acknowledge that the Foundation realised that there are still many more people who need these mobility aids and appliances.

“From December, we will distribute another set of appliances to 4,200 people in 12 states nationwide- Abia, Bauchi, Edo, Enugu, Gombe Katsina, Kwara, Kogi, Ogun, Ondo, Rivers and Zamfara,”he added.

While speaking, wife of the state governor, Hajiya Hadiza Mohammed Abubakar commended MTN Foundation for assisting the disabled.

She said the programme tallies with the Bauchi State government’s ‎vision of helping the less priveledged especially the vulnerable groups like women, children and the disabled.

On his part, the state governor , Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar said that the distribution will remain a memorable day for the disabled and the entire people of Bauchi State.

The governor who was represented by h‎is deputy, Eng. Nuhu Gidado said the Bauchi State government is happy with the priveledge of being among the beneficiaries of the MTN Foundation Disability Support Project.

“We are aware that sometimes in 2010 this kind of support was given to this state during which many persons with disability benefited tremendously.

“This humane gesture given to the persons with disability in Bauchi State will go along way in boosting the morale of this category of people in the state and as well give them a sense of belonging in the society,”he said.

Speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, Yusuf Abubakar thanked MTN Foundation for the gesture adding that they will use the aids provided for them to improve their lives.
