24 Plateau Assembly Members To Endorse Local Government Autonomy -Speaker

Plateau Speaker Rt. Hon. Peter Azi has said the 24 members of the state Assembly will endorse Local Government Autonomy as the 36 States Speakers confirmed their position.

Rt. Hon. Azi told our reporters at his residence in Utan of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau state on Monday.

He explained further that the 36 states of the federation have unanimously endorsed the acceptability of local government autonomy for grassroots development in the country.

According to him, the resolutions were adopted at the Conference of Speakers of State legislatures of Nigeria in Yola, with all the 36 states speakers in attendance.

The house of assembly will ensure 2/3 members agree with the conduct across the state for more inputs from citizens, were 31 bills has been past awaiting federal representative final endorsement.

Azi explained that, after their far reaching decisions then, inputs will be expected from the 24 members of the state assembly under his leadership by conducting public hearing which is aimed at positioning the country roadmap of devolution of power to the grassroots.

He reiterated the commitment of State Assembly in pushing forward the idea of devolution of power for sustainable growth and development and restructuring

Rt Hon Peter Azi applauded the state and federal government for taken urgent step to nip the crises on board, as we are ready to push forward the idea of devolution of power in the country.

“We urged the National Assembly to hasten the transmission of the approved Bill to respective state assemblies for input and subsequent approval”,Azi noted
