2 Killed, Several Houses Destroyed By Rainstorm In Plateau

At least  two were confirmed  dead and 200 houses torched by flood disaster in Dengi , Kantana and Riyom constituencies of Plateau State.

A member representing Dengi constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly ,Hon Saleh Shehu Yipmong said the heavy downpour which lasted several hours wrecked havoc on the people of Kanam Local Government Area .

Yipmong lamented that over two heads of family were rendered homeless without shelter, the communities include; Bagyar, Rumji, kyamsandi and some villages in Kantana respectively.

He  appealed  to spirited individual and state and federal agencies to come to their rescue and provide succour to the affected communities.

He called on NEMA /SEMA as a matter of urgency to live up to its responsibility of assisting the victims of natural disaster.

Hon Shehu Yipmong stressed that on the 6th April,2016 there was a heavy storm which uprooted economic trees killed birds and displaced residents gave him serious concern .

According to him, when he paid an oversight visit to these victims of rain storm who are internally displaced  without foodstuffs to carted for their immediate needs.

He added that public facilities like schools ,health care were not spared by the flood disaster and people are now begging for help.

Also ,Hon Daniel Dem expressed confidence that peace is gradually returning to  the State but what concern them now is the problem of rainstorm which affected many houses under his constituency.

He sued for the assistant of local government and other state and federal agencies in charge of internally displaced persons to provide relief materials to them.

Hon Ibrahim Baba Hassan emphasized on the need to sustain the existing peaceful coexistence among the people of the state.

He called on state government to embark on a visit to the affected local governments and provide help to the victims whose properties are destroyed by the rainstorm .

Hassan sympathizes with those families who lost their beloved members as a result of ugly incident,adding churches,Mosques and hospitals  were destroyed .
